"The Prom" at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Review
We were delighted when Chanhassen Dinner Theatres invited us to "The Prom!"
"The Prom" is a musical about a teen named Emma, who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom, but this upsets the PTA and a group of self-absorbed broadway stars decide to help her go to the prom. I laughed. I cried. It was a wonderful musical about love and acceptance, and an important message for us all.
We attended the Saturday matinee performance. Dinner is served first, starting at 11 AM, and the show starts at 1 PM. As this was our first time, we arrived right at 11. We were served in a timely manner, but this meant we were also done eating at noon and had an hour to kill. Luckily, there is free wifi so we could use our phones to pass the time.
The food was delicious! I had the pasta primavera. My husband had the breakfast sandwich. He said the jojo potatoes tasted similar to Arby's curly fries. My daughter had chicken tenders, which was the most kid-friendly option. She can be picky about her chicken, but she loved it and also liked the fries that came with it.
My husband tried the Blood Orange Bourbon Sour and liked it, said it tastes similar to a Tequila Sunrise. I had a sip and it kind of does! I tried the Banana Berry Smoothie, which was delicious, but it tasted mostly like pineapple and coconut to me. My daughter had a few sips and liked it too.
Before the show starts, dessert orders are taken, which are brought out during intermission. For "The Prom" they are offering a rainbow cake, which is not only beautiful but delicious! My husband and daughter split a rainbow cake slice, but I managed to sneak a couple of bites and it was delicious. I tried the dark and white chocolate mousse cake, which was so good and my daughter liked it too.
If not interested in dinner, you can also purchase show tickets by calling the box office. Prices and more information can be found on The Chanhassen Dinner Theatres website.
"The Prom" runs now through June 10, 2023, at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.
